Recent research highlights the importance of maintaining dietary acid-alkaline balance and possible protective effects of alkaline mineral supplementation.  A study published in the Journal of Nutrition in 2012, identified a diet high in acid correlated strongly with an increased filtration of fat into the liver, increased risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
