Weight Loss – A Personal Journey
It has come to my attention in recent weeks that many of you seem unaware of our successful weight loss program, so I thought I would share our latest success story.
We all have our demons and with weight loss this is no exception. I firmly believe we all need a motivation for achieving our goals whatever they may be and even with the best intentions, the only person who can really make the change is ourselves with some guidance and support along the way.
I would like to share a very personal story with you. My husband has struggled with his weight for most of his life. Jason wasn’t brought up in the healthiest of households and the “golden arches” of McDonalds were an all too familiar site when it came to meal time. Over the years he has had bursts of enthusiasm where he would lose some weight but then revert to his old habits and start gaining his weight again. I think his most significant weight gain came when I was pregnant with Noah; he gained the baby weight for me and kept it. At this stage Jason weighed in at 136kg. 
As many of you are aware, carrying excess weight has many passengers. In Jason’s case there is a strong family history of diabetes and heart disease and with the extra weight gain his blood tests showed that he had become prediabetic and had developed a fatty liver. He had also started snoring extremely badly and so we had him tested for sleep apnoea which came back as moderate. In addition to all of this he ended up in bed for 3 weeks after his back gave in from years of strain from the extra weight. He is now starting to gain strength back in his back however this will be a long journey and even holding Noah for short periods causes strain.
So, in all of this Jason wanted to lose weight so he could be more hands on with Noah and run around with him etc once he grew, however it wasn’t until his back gave way and the Neurosurgeon told him he’d be in a wheelchair by the time he was 50 if he didn’t “get his act together” that he decided to listen to his wife – and we all know …. no-one listens to their spouse.. however he did and is doing incredibly well.
We started Jason on the Metagenics Shake-It Program and have incorporated 2 gym sessions per week (combination of weights and cardio) and regular weigh ins. Since commencing the program in September he has gone from 136kg to 120kg, gone down 4 belt sizes and seems happier in himself. His journey is only just starting as he has another 17kg of fat to lose but he is doing phenomenally well and I’m very proud of him.
My point is if Jason can do it then so can you. Don’t let your demons win the battle. Focus on you – you deserve it. We all do.
